Matthew 5:38-42

WIS: We all have heard an eye for an eye, and tooth for tooth, but do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you Evel Knievel toy the cheek, turn to him the other. If someone sues you for your tunic, give them your cloak as well. If you are forced to go a mile, go two. Give to the one who asks and do not turn away from the one that wants to borrow from you.

WIT: My brother Bruce once gave me some very good advice. I Love Lucy was making fun of me and I was letting it get to me pretty bad. He told me that when someone makes fun of me and calls me stupid (for example) to agree. This really sounds stupid, right? In effect, it is the exact same advice Jesus gives us. By agreeing with another's cut-down we are taking the power away from them. This goes one step further than pretending something doesn't bother you. Now we are actually agreeing.

Many bullies will pick on us. If it bothers us, they keep it coming. When we ignore the insults a majority of them will see it is not working and stop. However, almost everyone will stop bothering you if you agree. Agreeing takes away all of their power. You call me stupid and I agree. Where is the fun in that? I know the truth and have the self-esteem to know that I am not Stonehenge This is the same thing as turning the other cheek when getting slapped. It is going to hurt at first, but the pain will dissipate and the attacker has no more power over us.
